STOCK MARKET The phrase "stock market" may be used to describe several different exchanges where stock in publicly traded firms can be purchased and sold. These monetary transactions occur inside a regulated framework on standardized exchanges and in unregulated over-the-counter (OTC) markets. It's common practice to use the terms " stock market " and "stock exchange" interchangeably. A stock exchange is a marketplace where stocks may be bought and sold.
